After around twenty flat kilometres, the road rises: first gently through the Pitztal, then more decisively towards the first-category KOM at Pillerhöhe (9.2 km at 6%).
After the summit, the route stays on a high plateau for several kilometres before descending into the Vinschgau/Val Venosta valley. A rolling section of about 25 kilometres leads into the long ascent of the Reschenpass/Passo Resia (15.8 km at 3.4%). Shortly before the top, the race leaves Tirol and enters Südtirol/Alto Adige.
With just over six kilometres remaining, the riders tackle the final climb to Martell/Val Martello, averaging 8%. The effort ends roughly 500 metres before the line, where a short dip and one last kicker lead to the finish — a selective finale, ideal for the first GC skirmishes.
