A high-speed start is set to open the Tour of the Alps 2022. After the first 40 km of the stage after the start in Cles, the home of Melinda and the old Trofeo Melinda, the route becomes more nervous until on the way to the intermediate sprint in Pergine Valsugana.

Once past the halfway sign, the road starts rising towards Strigno, with gradients between 6% and 8%. After crossing Pieve Tesino, the riders face the Passo Brocon climb, the first KOM of TotA 2022: 15 km at a 4.9% average gradient.

Right after the descent, the climb to Passo Gobbera starts (4.3 km at 5.5%). The fast way down leads to Imer, where the final circuit begins. With about 3 km to the finish line of Primiero/San Martino di Castrozza, the riders face the challenging 'Molaren' kick, the final springboard for those targeting the first leader's jersey.
