Tour of the Alps drives towards sustainability with Suzuki Hybrid

The Japanese brand renews its commitment to top-end cycling and the Euroregional event (April 15-19). Hybrid models Suzuki Swace and Suzuki Across will support the GS Alto Garda organizational staff

Among its founding values, the Tour of the Alps project holds high the preservation of the Alpine ecosystem and its peculiarities, together with the Trentino, Südtirol/Alto Adige and Tirol institutions.

Indeed, year after year, the GS Alto Garda organizing committee keeps investing in sustainability, with the clear goal of reducing its carbon emissions. Among the steps towards a greener event, limitations to pre- and post-race transfers have been introduced, while also choosing partner with a similar vision on this significant topic.

Also because of that, Tour of the Alps is proud to extend its collaboration with Suzuki, as the Japanese brand will once again be the Official Car of the Tour of the Alps in 2024, supplying the Euroregional event with hybrid vehicles.

“Passion, sport and the unique mountain ambience make Suzuki feel at home. We are happy that Tour of the Alps chose Suzuki Hybrid to support the athletes and the organization along the route, to ensure the greatest respect to nature in the Euroregion” – said Massimo Nalli, President of Suzuki Italia. “Cycling stands for values such as competition, endurance, playing by the rules and respecting the opponents: those values are part of Suzuki Motor Corporation since over a century. We are proud to be part of the Tour of the Alps, an emotional event crossing and showcasing our mountains, the Alps, an area that perfectly suits our Suzuki Allgrip integral driving system”.

Suzuki will equip the Tour of the Alps with two different Hybrid models, Swace and Across, combining low environmental impact with comfort, efficiency and power. The two motors, thermal and electric, are managed by the vehicle itself in a fully automatic way, optimizing each driving phase while minimizing fuel consumption and emissions.

The Swace Hybrid model, featuring a 207V system, allows the driver to manually select EV mode and drive fully electric, avoiding CO2 emissions. On the other hand, the refined 335V plug-in Hybrid built in the Across model provides a 98 km range in electric mode, complying with the strict WLTP approval standards.

A cutting-edge fleet of vehicles able to maintain an optimal battery level through braking and slowing down phases, perfect for tackling a high-paced week as in the Tour of the Alps. Suzuki boasts multiple experiences in the world of cycling, starting from the World Championships in Imola, going through the 2023 Italian Championships in Comano Terme – together with GS Alto Garda –, and the yearly Suzuki Bike Days event.

“We are proud of the multi-year partnership with Suzuki, based on mutual trust and shared values. Suzuki is a solid partner, sincerely passionate and committed to cycling, with cutting-edge know-how and technologies that are so valuable in our quest for sustainability and environmental awareness”, argued Giacomo Santini, President of GS Alto Garda.
