The Trentino stages of the upcoming Tour of the Alps (April 17-21) can turn out to be decisive for the final victory. The uphill finish in Brentonico-San Valentino will anticipate a Trentino stage, from Rovereto to Predazzo, before the start of the final day in Cavalese
As often happen in cycling, the climbs make the difference in the peloton. The Tour of the Alps knows it well having made the mountain its trademark. In fact, the 2023 route of the euro-regional stage race (April 17-21) is characterized by many climbs and points of interest as usual.
After the official start in Tirol and a first passage in Südtirol/Alto Adige with the Ritten/Renon finish line, the 46th Tour of the Alps will live two exciting stages in Trentino which can also have a decisive impact on the overall classification.
On Wednesday, April 19th, stage 3 (Ritten/Renon – Brentonico-San Valentino, 162,5 Km) will lead the peloton from one plateau to another through two climbs located in the last 60 Km. The first KOM starts from Aldeno, on the slopes of Mount Bondone, and leads to Cei Lake after 10 Km of ascent. However, the stage will be decided in the final climb (15 Km at 7,5%) of San Valentino di Brentonico, in the heart of Monte Baldo Natural Park.
“We are excited and proud to host two Tour of the Alps stages in Vallegarina. The top-notch cycling comes back and visits us”, said Giulio Prozzer, President of Rovereto, Vallagarina, and Monte Baldo Tourism Board. – “The amazing landscapes of Monte Baldo, Rovereto, and its artistic beauty will delight the public. It’s a great opportunity to raise awareness of our territory and to gain visibility on an international front. The Tour of the Alps is an important promotional tool for a territory characterized by a sports and cycling vocation”.

Trentino will be also in the spotlight on Thursday, April 20th, with stage 4 of 152,9 Km, from Vallagarina to Val di Fiemme. Rovereto’s MART (Modern Arts Museum) will host the start, whilst Predazzo will welcome the finish. After the start, riders will face the Sommo Pass, 15 Km of ascent which will be able to make their mark in case of speedy start. After the KOM of Santa Colomba Lake, stage 3 is destined to ignite with the entrance in Val di Fiemme. The iconic “Climb of the Cascata”, which become famous with Marcialonga, will anticipate the ascent of Pramadiccio Pass, before the descent in direction of Predazzo.
On Friday, April 21st, the Tour of the Alps stage 5 will start from Cavalese, in Val di Fiemme. Immediately after the start, riders will face the Lavazé Pass, the highest peak of the Tour of the Alps with its 1808 mt, followed by a long descent that will lead the peloton in Südtirol/Alto Adige, in direction of the great finale in Bruneck/Brunico.
“Tour of the Alps is a high-level race, grown exponentially believing in sustainability tourism, and the traditions of Tyrol, South Tyrol, and Trentino”, argued Paolo Gilmozzi, President of Val di Fiemme and Cembra Tourism Board. – “The euro-regional cycling event will shine the spotlight on the beautiful sceneries of Val di Fiemme and Val di Cembra, the cradle of cycling champions like Francesco Moser and Gilberto Simoni. This event represents a great opportunity to show a territory appreciated by the cycling fans thanks to the big events: Marcialonga Cycling and Giro d’Italia in addition to the TotA. The hospitality will be the same which is preparing to host the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games and that has already hosted the Ski Nordic World Championships in 1991, 2003, and 2013”.
