Tour of the Alps sets goal on 2021

Given the challenging calendar following the Covid-19 epidemy, the organizing committee of the Euro-regional race decided to renounce to the 2020 edition, moving sights to next year in the usual slot in April

While cycling is trying to save at least part of the 2020 season, the Tour of the Alps, as many other events of the international calendar, has decided to finally renounce to the 2020 edition, moving its sights to 2021. Such determination was been notified today to the International Cycling Union (UCI), the Italian Cycling Federation, and the Italian “Lega Ciclismo Professionistico”.

After having to stand with the impossibility of holding the UCI ProSeries event on the original dates from April 20th to 24th, the GS Alto Garda organizers, together with their partners, have acknowledged that the current uncertainty does not offer significant perspectives to identify a viable new date, even in case the professional season eventually resumes, and at least the Grand Tours and the Monument Classics are held.

“It is clear we are not in the position to organize the 2020 Tour of the Alps at an adequate level in these conditions” – told Giacomo Santini, President of GS Alto Garda, the Tour of the Alps organizing company. “The consequences of the COVID-19 outbreak and its impact on the world of sports have led to a choice with no real alternatives, totally shared with our partners, which we wish to thank for their constant support during this phase. People’s health and safety come first, and sports such as cycling have tough challenges to face in this regard. This is why we now wish to set our goal to 2021, in our usual calendar slot in April”.

As the second phase of the epidemic begins, the Tour of the Alps organizing committee will get back in action, building up for next year’s event, with full confidence in confirming the high technical level and the massive participation of World Tour teams also in 2021.
