In a few days the Tour Down Under in Australia will kick off the cycling season and along with it the Tour of the Alps is also taking shape more and more. Scheduled from the 20th to the 24th April 2020, it is now time to discover the protagonists of this 44th edition, after revealing the stages in the presentation of last October in Milan.
The stage race that connect Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino will start from Brixen/Bressanone and the South Tyrolean city will also host on Thursday January 30th the presentation with the starting teams announcement: the appointment is at 11 am in the Sala Adrian Egger (Via Portici Maggiori 14, first floor). There will be 20 teams, many of them of the World Tour category, to guarantee the highest technical level.
The presentation will host the President of GS Alto Garda Giacomo Santini, the Mayor of Brixen Peter Brunner, the Director of APT Brixen/Bressanone Werner Zanotti, the Director of APT Naturns/Naturno Uli Stampfer, the Chairman of the FCI South Tyrol Committee Nino Lazzarotto and the elite cyclist Elena Pirrone, one of the three patronesses of this edition of the Tour of the Alps.
The Tour of the Alps is considered the ideal springboard for the Giro d’Italia contenders, with the trademark of short and challenging stages.It is not by chance that the list of winners of this race is characterized by some of the best names of world cycling. Geraint Thomas took the win in 2017, while in 2018 Thibaut Pinot proved to be the strongest. But in 2019 a talented young rider took the spotlight winning the general classification, Pavel Sivakov, who together with team-mate Tao Geoghegan Hart was the protagonist of an exciting fight with Vincenzo Nibali.
