Good morning from the 2019 Tour of the Alps. The peloton keeps riding Southbound, from South Tyrol to Trentino, facing the shortest stage of the euro-regional event (Salorno/Salurn-Baselga di Piné, 106,3 Km). After Team Sky’s double win in the first two stages with Brit Tao Geoghegan Hart in Kufstein and Russian Pavel Sivakov in Scena/Schenna, will the rivals find a way to break the streak of the Brit squad? there won’t be shortage of opportunities to upset the GC on the Valle di Cembra roads, home area to champions such as Francesco Moser and Gilberto Simoni.

START: SALORNO/SALURN. Salorno/Salurn, the most southerly village in South Tyrol, is situated along the border between the German and Italianspeaking areas and forms the end of the South Tyrolean Wine Route. It is the largest growing area for white wines in South Tyrol. Salorno/Salurn is not only a paradise for hikers; it has much more to offer including numerous festivals, concerts and cultural events that provide a rich programme of entertainment and are an expression of the local joie de vivre.
ON THE ROAD: The Piné Plateau extends parallel to the Cembra Valley, with which it forms a single tourist environment. Distinctive characters of the territory are several bathing lakes, vineyards, meadows and woods, where biotopes and peat bogs can also be found.
THE STAGE TASTE: The wine and gastronomy of the Piné Plateau and the Cembra Valley feature genuine flavours which respect the mountain traditions: from the wines to the grappas, from the cheeses to the chestnuts, from the honey to the forest fruits, without forgetting the mushrooms of the woods. Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, gooseberries and blackberries are some of the small fruits growing on the Piné Plateau and in the Cembra Valley, delicacies of the palate that can be tasted alone or as tasty fruit juices, jams or preserves.
DON’T MISS: Haderburg, the castle of Salorno, which stands imposingly on the rocks above the village, is the symbol of this village. The old village centre, with its noble manor houses and Renaissance and Baroque buildings as well as its romantic streets and archways, exudes a very special charm.
FINISH: BASELGA DI PINE’. Located a few kilometers away of Trento, Baselga di Piné is situated on the border between Valsugana and Val di Cembra. Baselga offers medium mountain landscapes in a context embellished by greenwoods, lakes and religious places.
