The main center of Val di Sole was the traditional Trofeo Melinda start until its final edition, in 2014, a few months after its historical organizer Marco Brentani had passed away, and is now set to host the start of #GdTM final stage for the second straight year. Malè is also bound to mountain bike cycling: in fact, the UCI MTB Downhill and 4Cross World Championships will take place in Val di Sole in 2016
The historical finish city of Trofeo Melinda welcomes the last Giro del Trentino Melinda finish like in 2015, and will crown the overall winner. Hailing from Cles is the winner of the first ever Trofeo Melinda (1992), Maurizio Fondriest, who can also boast a Giro del Trentino title in his palmares: it was in 1993, when the rider from Trentino claimed three stages and the overall classification
Giro del Trentino Melinda reaches the last showdown: the long-time Trofeo Melinda roads, between Val di Sole and Val di Non, from Malè to Cles, are set to prove decisive for the final outcome. 161 km with no flat ground nor breathers for the riders: in addition to the classic climbs, Fondo - to be repeated twice - and Marcena di Rumo, the Forcella di Brez is set to characterize the stage, and possibly the whole race. Six kilometres uphill, with tough gradients all the way, poised to splinter the race and make a big selection, maybe even the decisive one to proclaim the new Giro del Trentino Melinda winner. After the Forcella di Brez, the riders will ride downhill to Cles, pass under the finishing banner and take in the final 14 km lap of the 40th Giro del Trentino Melinda.
